Ngati Mutunga ki Wharekauri/Taranaki
I have a family of 4 (Adult) children and 5 Grandchildren.
I have had a long-term goal to work in the field of Family Dispute Resolution. I have a particular interest in ensuring Tamariki/Children have an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to finding workable solutions for issues that impact on the whanau/family.
I originally trained as a Primary School Teacher and taught for a number of years in NZ and Australia. When my family of 4 went to school, I rejoined the workforce as a teacher.
In the late 1980’s I joined the Office of the Race Relations Conciliator for 6 years. This was where I had my first taste of Mediation and Facilitation. I subsequently worked in Community Development roles, as a Consultant to the Not-for-Profit/Voluntary sector, in Adult Education focusing on Treaty of Waitangi Training and Managing Te Ture Manaaki O Rehua/Maori Legal Services in Christchurch for 6 years. During this time I trained in Restorative Justice Practice.
In 2005, I managed the Christchurch Refugee and Migrant Centre and continue to provide volunteer assistance for Christchurch Resettlement Services.
For 10 years, until December 2017, I worked as an Employment Mediator for MBIE.
I am LEADR Trained and Accredited, attained Advanced Skills in Employment Mediation in 2016 and FDR Provider Accreditation in 2018.
